"Jack the Ripper" is the best-known name given to an unidentified serial killer who was active in the largely impoverished areas in and around the Whitechapel district of London in 1888. The name originated in a letter, written by someone claiming to be the murderer, that was disseminated in the media. The letter is widely believed to have been a hoax, and may have been written by a journalist in a deliberate attempt to heighten interest in the story. Other nicknames used for the killer at the time were "The Whitechapel Murderer" and "Leather Apron".

Our tours may be taken at any time of day, and although it may seem more atmospheric to do this in the evening, maybe as part of a large group, this is often not so since you may for example get several tour groups of thirty plus people all vying for space in certain locations, often with locals (sick of the continuous stream of tourists) heckling. This is not a problem with a private guide. Not only will you get to see more locations at your own pace over a two hour period, but you will be able to question our expert and get a better feeling of what it was like in 1888.
In addition this tour can be combined with a more general tour of London, or our eccentric/hidden London, or Sherlock Holmes, or Poirot tours which include lunch or dinner at a suitable location.
